What is The BrainChild Developmental Programme?

Sometimes early childhood development is affected in some way. There are many influencing factors. Sometimes there is no obvious cause.

As a result, the child is left with brain functioning that is (basically) designed for babies and this prevents the development of mature functioning of the whole child. The infant reflexes from this time persist and can get in the way of brain development. What are reflexes tells you more?

Difficulties

The difficulties can show in different ways........and with varying severity. Many of these children seem immature, with behaviours inappropriate to their age and most of them have difficulties in many areas of their life.

A child may have difficulties with a range of issues.........for example.........difficulty sitting still, concentrating, controlling emotions , problems with understanding and memory..............or it could be more physical .......such as poor balance and co-ordination. In milder cases fewer problems may present themselves. ........for example.......some children develop a negative attitude to schoolwork because they don't like writing.

Tackling the problem

In tackling this problem.........because the BrainChild Programme is a practical programme..................... children don't have to write to improve their writing for example. They play some very carefully designed games that don't have any obvious connection with writing.

After all ..............If a child feels they have failed at something like writing, the last thing they want to do is more writing practice!

Usually, not only the writing improves........ but motivation, self esteem and many other things improve too.

Children are given a range of diagnoses ........such as Autistic spectrum disorder........dyspraxia,,,,,,,,,,language delay........learning difficulty and so on. These are different expressions of an immature brain. At BrainChild we are less interested in a label.......we want to know what the detailed problems are that are affecting the child........so we can do something about them. Each child has a detailed assessment and a programme is planned. Parents agree to practice daily with their child. There can be no guarantee that changes will occur, but it is rare that improvements are not seen.

So what does The BrainChild programme do?

• FIRST......... it helps parents to understand why their child is behaving in a particular way. It shows them how they can help their child.
  
• SECONDLY...............It identifies and addresses the issues and works towards improving functioning of the whole child.
  
• THIRDLY ...............it works on specific areas.......for example,  the three infant reflexes on the hands that can persist from the baby stage. These can make writing difficult and cause children to avoid writing and even become disruptive or unco-operative.

Some of the features that can be helped include concentration, attention, anxiety, aggression, language development, coordination, motivation, organisational skills and hyperactivity.

We see improvements in schoolwork, sports, friendships, attitudes, confidence and behaviour. Even things like tremors and physical asymmetries disappear.

However the most obvious .........most important..............outcome is that the child is happier ................and so the whole family is happier. Not to mention teachers at school.
