Workshops for Therapists and Teaching Professionals
Professional
courses, in partnership with Edge
Hill University,
leading to a Postgraduate Certificate of Education or contributing to an MA.
(optional)
Viv
Hailwood teaches professionals about the impact of neuro-developmental
delay and how to identify problems and facilitate easier learning and
functioning.
The workshops are designed to help
teaching professionals and therapists to understand how early neurological development
can cause children and adults to experience physical, cognitive,
emotional and social difficulties in their lives.
They also provide a range of approaches and programmes
for working 1-to-1 and in group and class situations using the
BrainChild Developmental Programmes.
Foundation Level – BC1 - Delivering The BrainChild Developmental Programme to groups and classes.
Edge Hill University accreditation available - 20 units
This practical workshop prepares teachers and teaching
assistants with the knowledge and skills to deliver The BrainChild
Developmental Programme with classes and groups in mainstream schools
and extended school groups. Although the programme has a serious
purpose, children just find it good fun. It is suitable for Foundation
Stage and KS 1& 2.
This one day workshop is designed to provide a basic
understanding of the effects of neuro-developmental delay and its role
in physical, learning, emotional and social difficulties observed in
children with diagnoses relating to brain function such as Autistic
Spectrum Disorder, Dyspraxia, Dyslexia, Language Delay and in many
children with no diagnosis.
The majority of the workshop is practical and the support material is easy to use.
Foundation Level - BC2 - The Key Infant Reflexes and the individual.
Edge Hill University accreditation available - 20 units
Mainly focussing on 1-to-1 processes, many of which
involve touch, this two day workshop is ideal for therapists working
with child and parent. You will learn in detail the effects of the key
aberrant infant reflexes and the processes that can be used to address
the problems. Assessment and a detailed programme is taught with a
large practical element.
This is what workshop attendees say:
This is an excellent course, rich and
varied in its presentation of reflexes and many of the exercises and
games will be compelling for children. The training programme was well
organised and took us through theory and practicals without confusion.
It is immediately applicable to my group work with children. Liz Peake,
Birmingham.
Lynda
Underwood of Durham reports: After introducing the programme in
school.....at my leaving assembly....my class kept saying that the PE
lessons were fantastic as we played such super games! They were
the BrainChild Programme!
Essential knowledge for ALL those
involved in working with any children, not just those with Special
Needs. Karen Tredwell, Sandgate Special School, Cumbria
Very instructive, entertaining and informative. Fun to
do, accessible and hugely participatory! Fulfils the mission of making
learning fun! Richard Shaw, Worcester.
A most enjoyable course. I felt engaged all the time. It helped me
re-inforce
and improve my understanding of the reflexes. It also helped
me by having
meaningful and exciting activities to use with the
children.
Linda Hardman, Eastbourne.
A SUPERB course in every way – excellent input on intellectual and practical sides.
Sam Metcalfe, Ghyllside School, Cumbria
